Members of the Small Retailers Coalition are independent, small businesses that sell gasoline and diesel motor vehicle fuels to consumers. Small retailers provide jobs and support local communities. More than 50% of U.S. convenience stores selling fuel are owned by an operator that only owns just a single store. Stores in this category employ over 420,000 Americans. But these stores are threatened by larger retailers who are taking advantage of a provision of the Renewable Fuel Standard that allows them to make windfall profits. With a competitive advantage, they can push smaller retailers out. Reduced competition means higher costs and fewer jobs.
It doesn’t have to be this way. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency can change the Renewable Fuel Standard to level the playing field while protecting the environment. Make your voice heard by joining the Small Retailers Coalition today.
